The Wallops Incident Response Team completed an initial assessment Wednesday of Wallops Island, Virginia, following the catastrophic failure of Orbital Science Corp.'s Antares rocket shortly after liftoff Tuesday from Pad 0A of the Mid-Atlantic Regional Spaceport at NASA's Wallops Flight Facility in Virginia.

The launch of SpaceLoft XL 9 (SL-9), which was designed to reach sub-orbital space, took place yesterday morning from Spaceport America's Launch Complex-1.

At a news conference in Moscow today Yuri Bakhvalov, Deputy General Designer of the Khrunichev Space Center, told reporters that Russia was planning a December launch for the maiden voyage of its heavy-lift rocket the Angara-A5. The launch is tentatively scheduled for December 25th.
